Adult Christian Education
The Adult Forum is usually held in conjunction with Sunday Coffee Hour. Speaker/teachers are engaged to provide seasonally relevant presentations. From time to time, we have used this venue for theological education and had speakers from the community speak about specific activities. Topics, such as presentations on Russian Icons or C. S. Lewis, have been well received. We also invite speakers representing missionary or program organizations to present their programs and benefits.
During parts of the year, we hold a Wednesday evening Bible or book study. We are currently in hiatus. Look for us to start up again later in the summer.
We may think of prayer as thoughts or feelings expressed in words. But this is only one expression. In the Christian tradition Contemplative Prayer is considered to be the pure gift of God. It is the opening of mind and heart – our whole being – to God, the Ultimate Mystery, beyond thoughts, words, and emotions. Through grace we open our awareness to God whom we know by faith is within us, closer than breathing, closer than thinking, closer than choosing - closer than consciousness itself.
An ecumenical Centering Prayer group meets at St. John's at 3:00 on most Fridays.
